I recently did some work on a ladies house (washed windows, small electrical, sprinkler system) that I was going to move into but things didn't work out.
Afterwords her boyfriend asked me if I would do some work on his house that was up for sale.
He knew that I wasn't licensed as a contractor and all I did was wash his windows, replaced a vent fan, and did some painting.
He had told me orignally to go through and repair whatever needed to be repaired as he was selling the place. We did not discuss cost and at the end of the first week I asked for a check for the work. He paid me and then about a week later I found out that he had stopped payment on the check.
I called him and he said he wanted to negotiate the cost and that what I was doing is illegal as I don't have a license (he is an attorney).
Can I take him to small claims or am I out of luck?
