What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? LOUISIANA
My 2 kids moved into a place with a third party. They all paid a third of the deposit (one month's rent) and the first month's rent in advance. We have a cancelled check showing this was paid. Their roommate was the main lease holder and they were listed as occupants of the home. All utilities were also in the roommate's name.
All rent and utility payments were paid by my kids to the roommate in cash. After 3 or maybe it was 4 months into the year lease the roommate 'texts' them to tell them she is breaking the lease to move home so they have to be moved out within a week. Her breaking the lease caused them to lose their deposit. Now the roommate is threatening to take them to court for the entire month's rent for the month they had to move (they were only in the house for 9 days) as well as the following month's rent because she had to pay it since the landlord didn't rent it yet. Also she is claiming they owe her for pieces of utility bills that they already paid to her.

Does she have any kind of case here? They lost money due to her breaking the lease and aren't harassing her for it. Any knowledge on this is appreciated.
