What is the name of your state? NH
I was invited to come live with a friend of mine I'd known for six years when I became homeless a few months back. Long story short, I had nearly everything I owned moved in there, was setting up, had a verbal agreement with the landlord to start paying rent by a set date, and everything was working out fine. One night I came back to an ambush, although I had seen her earlier in the day and all was fine. The outer storm door was locked, I had to slice the screen door to open it, I could hear both my roommates inside, no one answered the phone or the door, etc. Once I entered the room I was accosted with all kinds of screaming and yelling to get out, and she called the police and told them I had threatened to bring a gun in her house, which never occured. I don't own a gun and I haven't even fired a real gun before in my life. After she'd said that on the phone I went outside scared to death because the police were coming thinking I had a firearm on me!
Basically as it went, I was completely cooperative with the police, they saw I had nothing on me, and my roommate that wasn't the crazy one screaming put some clothes in a bag for me and I left to stay at a friend's house. The next day I started talking to the landlord about getting my stuff out, that went on in games of phone tag for over a month before I finally was told I could come over and get all my stuff. Half of it wasn't even there! She stole over six-thousand dollars worth of my belongings, and once I had tallied it all up for the landlord, who'd been nothing but my friend beforehand, he completely hung me out to dry, after telling me to deal with him the whole time.
I'm absolutely at my wit's end. She stole my entire CD and DVD collection, a 2,000 dollar violin that was a gift from my mother that meant a lot to me, my computer, and several other very valuable possessions. What do I do? Can I file criminal theft charges against her? Please help!
