ex threatening lawsuit

What is the name of your state? Louisiana

I relocated to New Jersey from New Orleans after the hurricanes. Prior to that time I was living with my ex-fiance. Since relocating, we have broken off the engagement and I have now recieved a letter from his attorney requesting money for 1/2 of a loan that he apparantly took out to pay for my engagement ring and the reception. He is also requesting that I pay for my wedding band that he bought.

Additional Facts: He has the engagement ring and the wedding band. He has also been refunded 100% by the reception hall. All other costs incurred for the wedding were incurred by me! I paid for the church, photographer, hotel for the weekend of the wedding, dresses, invitations, etc...

Does he have a legitimate case against me? Or is his attorney just trying to see what money he can scare out of me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
