My daughter and her fiance had been together for 6 years, living together four of those years, engaged for 2 of those years. They together set a wedding date in Oct. We made reservations for dinner, paid a deposit of $500.00. Purchased a wedding gown and accesories totaling $1100.00, and had invitations printed, totaling $398.00, all of which is nonreturnable. He backed out of it 3 weeks ago. Can I sue him in small claims court to recoup money that is nonrefundable?

People have sued for sillier things and won. There have even been cases of jilted prom dates suing and winning.

Suggest have you asked this young man whether he is willing to pay for (at least half) of the non-refundable items?
