How can I find out if a defendant has been sued before?

I'm suing the defendant for non-payment on a contract. I think he's done this to others. Is there a database or something I can use to find out if he's been sued before?

You can see if your county has an online data access and check there. If they aren't online, you may have to go to the county courthouse and research.
