What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina.

I live in NC but the person who owes me money is in Chicago, IL. I have his address that he gave me a year ago. I recently discovered that the phone number he uses is a google voice number and I have been trying to call him, but he never answer his phone. Now i think the address he gave me might me someone's else, or he doesn't live there anymore. But either way I wanna confirm his address so that i can file law suit against him in small people's court. Can you give me any advice on this. I did called the local poilce station, but apparently they cant help me either.

How much are you talking about? Why do you think North Carolina would have jurisdiction over the other party?
I am going to file the law suit in Cook county, which is in Chicago, IL. He owes me $3000.00. I have all the paper work, all I need is his address.

Sure hope you plan to appear in court. I'm pretty sure that court doesn't allow attorney representation.

As for the address, you need to track the guy down yourself. Hire a private investigator, or a skip tracer, or send a letter to their last known address with a request for return address servicing. No one's going to do it for you.

(I'm sorry, I just can't not point it out - it's small CLAIMS. Not small people. Though I'm sure small people regularly do appear in small claims court)

Mayhaps OP wants to take his case before the local elementary school principal.

On every episode I've seen of The People's Court, the people did seem small. Maybe I need a bigger tv?
