What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I am about to file a small claim suit against a service retailer that refuses to return my deposit back due to a cancelled order. The cancellation was brought about their own failed date of delivery...

Anyway, the name of the company is actually one of many names the licensed corporation is doing business as. What I found out from the City Business License department was the licensed corporation is dba 'A name', which is also dba 'B name', 'C name, 'D name, and 'E name....

I was told to sue the licensed corporation...

So does this mean my suit will name the defendant as 'Licensed Name' dba 'A name' dba 'B name' ('B name' is the actual name that appears on my order sheet)?

Go the secretary of state's website, find out the registered agent of the company and serve him. You can have the DBA as a defendant, many DBAs named as defendant ... but serve the complaint upon the company you dealt with.

Thank you for the reply...

So I can name the dba company (actual named company I ordered from) as opposed to the actual permitted corporation (listed in the permit company?) as long as I serve the registered agent, corect?

The city did give me the state's information with the person/agent's name...so I'll go this route. Once again, thank you.
