I entrusted a friend to help me purchase 2 cell phones from a person he knows. About a month and a half ago, I gave him 500$ cash to give to that guy. It was only supposed to take a week but now it has been significantly more time. I don't know the guy personally but I have been calling him weekly to check on the phone. I only have his phone number and can't locate his address to take him to small claims court. We have no written contract but i have some recorded phone conversations with him. I have been calling him and messaging him online for a refund but now he is avoiding my calls and messages. My friend is no help either now. I was wondering if I could file a police report against the person I purchased the items from? That is the only way i think i can get his address. Because how else can I file a small claims lawsuit if i dont have his address? Everyone involved are students, not that it matters too much.
