What is the name of your state? PA

I have been told by my mortgage broker at the time of the house settlement (10 days ago) that I will be refunded 50% of the so called "origination fee" , an amount that came up to $1200. This person gave me a handwritten statement saying that this amount would be send to me within 7 business days. Well, it's been 10 days and I haven't received the check. Upon my inquiry to the mortgage company he works for, I have been told that the mortgage broker no longer works there. His boss has been avoiding/ not returning my phone calls. I feel as he wants this whole thing to go away somehow. I also have been told by a secretary that this statement my old broker signed was not "authorized" by the big boss therefore I shouldn't expect to actually receive this money. I also think that I have a pretty solid case because the name of the company is on this statement (it's on the letterhead). Doubts are creeping in however. Do I sue?
