Need help sister bounced check and moved to another state

What is the name of your state? maryland

My sister's husband wrecked my husband's truck . He admitted he was wrong and wrote us a 500 dollar check for our dedcutible. THey moved to NOrth Carolina and when we tried to cash their check at their bank they said they could not cash it. They are refusing to pay and not returning our phone calls what should we do?

You need to check with your State Attorney to find out if writing a bad check is a criminal offense. Here in FL it is, and all I would need to do is fill out the proper paperwork and the legal system takes over. If it's not criminal then it's civil and you would need to sue in small claims court.
