petit theft, shoplifting... HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm desperate!
I'm an 18 year old girl who lives in Indiana.
I just made a really dumb mistake.
I attempted to steal four shirts from a local store. worth around $78
I was caught and given a citation.
I have no idea what I'm in store for.
The police officer said something about taking a class and having a fine.
Does anyone know what kind of fine I would have?
What going to court would entail?
What kind of classes does he mean?
Could I serve jail time??!!!
I've NEVER been in trouble.
Please please help me.
I'm so scared. I cant go to the parents because they'll kill me!

I am not a lawyer however maybe I can help ease your mind. I have a friend who when we were growing up he was arrested 3 times for shop lifting. Never did he go to jail. All three times it was more then 100 dollars but less then 200 and he settled out of court. This was in New Jersey though

If it is your first offense I highly doubt you would go to jail. With all the real criminals out there right now sending someone to jail over 75 dollars to me seems ridiculous. Now if this was like your 3rd or 4th offense not sure what to tell you
