As a private party I sold and finance a car here in GA. The buyer is over $1,000 behind in payments. How do I go about legally reposessing car?

First, get a judgment against this person.

Then execute on the judgment, taking the car to pay for it.

Go to Barnes and Noble (or some other bricks-and-mortar or online store); they have tons of books on how to do this stuff.
