What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? ny

I have a question about compensation for travel time.

Say someone lists advertisement for a product that is intentionally inaccurate for whatever reason.
If you travel to the seller intending to buy the item but because it was not as advertised, you have wasted your time and end up not buying the item. Are you able to sue to recover reasonable costs such as gas money or taxi fare? (never mind that the costs of filing suit would be more). Just wanted to know if there's a legal basis for this.
Thanks

thanks. it was voluntary but it doesn't matter that it's based on false information?

for example, say a company advertises with malicious intent an event. millions of people go to it. then the company says, sorry, we lied, there is no event. so all the people wasted their time and they cannot sue to recover their travel expenses?
