What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina
Is there a squatters law or quitclaim law that would allow a person (other than the owner) that maintains the upkeep of a piece of property, to eventually own the piece of property that is being maintained? The property in question is about 16 feet wide and approximately 175 feet long. It borders our driveway and is a terrible eyesore if we were not mowing it as our yard.
It looks like it belongs to our house, but it does not. The adjacent property is rental property. The owner resides in Florida not NC. The renters do not mow anything, and maybe 3 times a year, a company hired by the owner, comes and mows. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
