What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Connecticut

I bought a business back in 2002, I borrowed $2000 from the person I bought the business from for start up cost. I repaid this money in cash, as she did not want a check. I also did not get a receipt from her. I never thought this was going to happen and we were friends at that point. She is now taking me to small claims. She has a returned check, I have nothing. The check is dated March 2002. The statue of limitations is 3 years for verbal, and 6 for written in CT. Does she have a case??
