What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Missouri

My 19 year old son bought a truck from an individual. Seller told him the truck had a new transmission. He drove it two weeks and the transmission went out. Seller will not return phone calls. He finally saved the $$ to get the transmission fixed but now the work has stopped because there is so much more wrong with it. So far the tally is up to $2400.00 to fix the truck. All has to do with transmission being installed incorrectly and a lift kit that was installed incorrectly. All ball joints are bad, all U joints are bad, the computer controller was not reset when the 1st transmission was put in, gears were missing in the transmission. The transmission shop where the truck is now said the work looks like a 2 year old did it and he feels my son was sold a truck under very dishonest conditions.

Does he have any legal recourse?
