What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

I moved out of my apartment a month before my lease was up and made rent payments late to the point that my roommate was issued eviction paper. I moved out because my roommate had stopped giving me her half of the money for our bills my question is even though i was in the wrong can i still sue to recoup the money i lost from the cable and light bill which was in my name, and the money i'm being forced to pay for the month i didn't stay there as far as the water and trash bills are concerned I intend on paying the rent.
