Buying a House for a SSDI/SSI RecipientWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA Would purchasing a home for a relative who receives SSDI/SSI cause him to lose his benefits? Alternatively, what if we purchase the home in our own name and rent it to him? |

SSI , in this case makes up the difference ( so to speak ) to the max. allowed ( if SSDI amount is lower than the max .) It's a social program . You also have to watch out for Medical coverage and assets ( Ie: Medicare/Medicaid ) . While owning and living in a home is allowed under SSI , a sale and proceeds would be considered assets then . The recipient really should check with their local SSA office in person with questions like this .You could go along too with questions. SSDI - it would not matter - See above . Yes you can purchase a home and rent it to the person . Perfectly legal .
