I'm a disabled student and SSI recipient in California. I checked the SS handbook but not sure I found an answer.

1. Can you own a new car while receiving SSI, or would you be penalized for acquiring a car loan or maybe even lose benefits?

2. What happens after a SSI recipient dies? Are his properties: home, car, etc. confiscated? Supposing I want to leave inheritors, would it be possible?

I appreciate your answer/advice! :)

Regards,
Patty

1. You are allowed to own one vehicle, there is no value limit. This vehicle must be primarily used for your transportation.

2. You can leave all your stuff to your heirs after all your debts are paid.
