Daughters SSIWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas I am wondering if someone can tell me how long children recieve benefits as disabled children. Born under 2 lbs. I cant find out anything through my ex. Can I speak with someone from SSA? We have the joint legal and physical but she gets the SSI.

I don't see why you can't speak to SSA ,depending on your purpose ?

| You know I forgot to ask. will it decrease if she marries or begins to work? I was confused because my ex said she wanted to stop getting it so she could work. But as I understood it she would get a deduction?

| SSI is a low income program and income from the parents can reduce the SSI payment. However, a premature baby who is approved for SSI because of low birthweight generally has a medical review done at age 1 to determine if there are any severe developmental delays. If the child is developing "normally", or up to a certain standard, then SSI should stop because the child no longer has a severe problem. If there are severe developmental delays, SSI can continue, but parental income affects SSI for a disabled child until the child reaches age 18. The post about age 19 and in school refers to children getting benefits based on a parent's disability, death or retirement. |
