Father in final process died should son pursue

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon, father MN
For several years my sons father has been disabled and was to have the final hearing on Sept 3rd, yesterday. He died July 31st. He had been fighting for years and had an attorney. He had recently had complications with diabetes and had his toe and part of foot amputated as well as many other complications for years. my son's grandmother had called the attorney who told her my son would have to carry on the claim, now his grandmother will not give me the name of the attorney. His father never made much money and never paid any child support. My son will be 18 next May. I made an appoint with SS office on 9/10 but now I am wondering if I should speak to the attorney first. My sons grandmother will not give me the name though and I am not certain how to find it MN is a large state and I really do not have a clue.
Thank you

Was there ever a court order to pay support?

No, we had to move away to avoid the drug abuse and domestic abuse, we stayed in touch only to be aware of his location and to make certain he did not have ours. He never worked very much of his life his illness prevented that. His life was not a good life and he never had any money to pay support although close to the end he did name his son in the proceeding for the SSI.

If there was never an order for support he was never obliged to pay support.

Go along to your appointment and see what happens from there - I'm not sure what, if any, information you could get from your ex's attorney even if you knew the name. But see what SS says first.
