Parental resources - exempt vehicles

What is the name of your state? Ca. My disabled son has received SSI for many years and we just went through another review. It looks like the vehicle that my husband uses for commuting to work may not be exempt and now that we have it nearly paid off, it's worth too much money - which is counted against our resources. We have another vehicle that is equipped with a wheelchair lift for transporting our son but if used for commuting to work, of course, it wouldn't be available for his needs.

The SSI agent who did the review is going to double-check the regs re exempt vehicles but was almost sure that only one can be exempted, whatever the reason. Is this true? If our second vehicle counts, we're sunk.
