S.S. Disability records & suchNJ Hello, A friend of mine asked me to post this as she doesnt have a computer. She was deemed mentally disabled by the courts on her 3rd try.. This occurred about 10 years ago & she was wondering how easy her SSDI records are to look into ? Like who can have access and find out about her? Like if she's pulled over for a speeding ticket or something, do cops have access to this type of stuff ? any info is much appreciated. thanks Mike |

Those records would show as " Disabled " . Some may show as mentally disabled , or have a code for the impairment . Those records are usually kept confidential in the system . The police would have no way of knowing unless they were told.

What about new doctors that she sees that know nothing about her condition. They can still look this up somehow? Also, If getting approved SSDI for a mental illness, does this also mean she's been ruled mentally adjudicated by a court of law ? (since it was on her 3rd try for SSDI in which she had to see a judge to get approved for SSDI) Meaning she cannot possess a firearm ? I guess she should of looked into this once she was ruled disabled by the judge, but didnt care at the time. She said she didnt remember the judge saying that. But in her state its law that if a judge has ruled her mentally adjudicated , you cannot possess a firearm. Once again I appreciate the help. mike |

| You're mixing apples with oranges . SSA has an ALJ - note administrative . They look at SS Laws. This is not the same type of Judge that presides over criminal matters . As far as a New Dr. , depends . If it's within the same health care system and they are up to date on electronic technology ,yes it can be seen . If not , then most likely not . I really don't know what you are getting at and I've said enough . If your friend has concerns she should speak to SSA about it , or consult an SS Lawyer .
