Let's say I have a friend in California who filed for SDI about eight months after he was let go from his job because he felt that, because of his ethical values or civil duty or pride, or whatever dumb reason, he just didn't want to apply within the 49 days; and then, after eight months passed and his savings were all dried up, he then filed a claim and was awarded it, but his claim effective date was after those eight months.

Should he leave well enough alone and not try to appeal for that time frame? Note that his initial claim form may also have erroneously listed an incorrect date (2 days before he was let go) for his disability, and his doctor may have overlooked that detail when signing the form.

Is that enough information to go on? What should my friend do?

Thanks,
Rex
