Social security questionHello. I am a new york resident who is looking to recieve a personal injury settlement. The catch is i'm recieving social security disability insurance. I don't know if social security will ask me for some of my moneys. I don't want to let them know that i am recieving the settlement, but i don't want to get in trouble for trying to defraud the system. QUESTIONS: 1) would my settlement affect my disability payments? 2) should i try to hide my money from the government? 3) how would i be able to do this? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

| Relax. Social Security Disability has no interest in your personal injury settlement. They are only concerned with your ability to work and any earnings income, and clearly a personal injury settlement is not money earned from working. Quote:

However, if you were receiving SSI that is another matter. (You said you were receiving SSDI). Last edited by phase08; 08-12-2009 at 11:35 PM. |
