SSI Back Pay For Someone Already Recieving Regular Payments.I am Married to my wife who has Spina Bifida we have one daughter who also has Spina Bifida. Each have gotten SSI their entire lives due to the severity of the condition. I reported my income to SSA but it only got put on my daughters case and not my wife's. Long story short their estimates of my income for my wife's case were wrong and she was severely underpaid. They reviewed the case and sent us a letter stating that she was entitled to 7 grand in back pay. Then it said on the last line that someone would get in touch with us regarding the back payment. It has been 70 days since we got the award letter in the mail and have not received any further contact. How long do we have to wait till payment is made? Do I contact a payment center or SSA directly? My wife wants to use the money for an electric wheelchair. and a hospital bed. |

| If at all possible ,the best way to inquire is going to your local SSA office in person with the award letter. The recipient can always call SSA tool free number ( or local SSA Office # - if you can get through ) to inquire the status .
