What is t. Ihe name of your state (only U.S. law)? OHIO. I just received SSI they sent me a lump sum of money.and I received my 1st check on 8-1-15. I worked from 4-7-15 to 5-8-15 which I reported to SSI? Can they stop my SSI checks?? Can they make me repay the lump sum?? My lump sum was 2199.00?? I'm certain this amount isn't correct? I first applied for SSI in 11-05-04? Can you please assist me? But what's mostly UNnerving is these threats of stopping my SSI checks.and the repayment of the lump sum?? Can a SSI worker even threaten a client?? I haven't done anything wrong. Thanks!

No?

Have you read the Social Security Handbook Chapter 21 on SSI which explains how income affects SSI benefits?

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.21/handbook-toc21.html?__utma=176294311.1719489091.1442958489.1442958489.1442958489.1&__utmb=176294311.5.9.1442958578197&__utmc=176294311&__utmx=-&__utmz=176294311.1442958489.1.1.utmcsr=r.duckduckgo.com|utmccn=(referral)|utmcmd=referral|utmcct=/&__utmv=-&__utmk=143492469

Section 2128 explains:

The amount of your income determines your eligibility for SSI and the amount of your benefit. Generally, the more income you receive the lower your SSI benefit. If you have too much income, you are not eligible for SSI benefits. However, not everything you get is considered income and not all income counts in determining your eligibility.

Your income might reduce or temporarily stop your benefits.

You might have perceived the conversation with the SSA agent as a threat, but it wasn't. It was probably similar to the explanation in Section 2128.

PS: If you thought the $2199 was incorrect why didn't you call or visit the SSA office and get an explanation?

It is unlikely that an award in 2015 would reopen a claim filed 11 years before. Highly unlikely.

SSI benefits can start and stop for many reasons. But the notices explain it. Some of the notices are 10, 20, 30 and 40 pages of explanation.

You need to talk to an SSI specialist in your local office. You need to read the notices.

More than likely, the decisions are correct and the information is contained in the notices. You may not like the decisions or agree with the laws or policy, but if the data going in is correct, then the payments are correct.

Make a list of questions. Go to your local office. Bring your notices. Multiple times if you need to. Bring a book. You may have to wait to be seen.
