What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

Trying to help someone...

He has had mental problems/diagnosis for years. He is currently in the hospital for attempted suicide. He's has also been homeless for several months. I know it will take time for him to get approved for SSI (he will be applying for disability) but will he at least qualify for TANF, food stamps, and will they help him get into an apt while he's applying for the SSI? He's in the hospital & worried about what he will do when he gets out in a day or 2. He is a twice divorced father.

If he has/can get his proof of application with SSA and can get a Drs. Statement that in their opinion the person can not be employed at this time , the individual should be able to apply for and receive Emergency assistances .

The individual or a representative on his/her behalf should be aggressively assertive and go all the way the the director of Soc. Services if need be , as often times workers will turn otherwise eligible persons away .

He also pays child support to 2 families. He's in arrears on 1. The one is modifying the decree so she can claim the kids on income taxes every year & she's asking for attorney fees. The court papers were delivered to someone elses home. I say he should just agree to let her claim them but him pay NONE of her attorney fees, but he's saying that he's not going to go because he can't deal with it. Also, since he can't pay CS at this time, is there a way to prevent them from sending him to jail? Should he ask for a modification now for when/if disability goes through?

Ok. The Dr. took him off work for 90 days & then maybe longer. He's going to be getting te temp disablility payments through his benefit plan. Should he wait to file for ssdi or start the process now?

One has to be declared disabled from substantial employment for a least or up to 12 months to be eligible .

Having said that , if his mental disability is server enough , he should apply now .
