What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia- I have filed for disability. The last time I worked was back in 1997; I didn't file until 2010. My 1st hearing was just the other day, and my lawyers were a no-show. They tried to explain why they "withdrew" from my case, but I do not understand-still! I think what they said was that was basically that my case was not going to make enough to be worth their while and that was due to them not being able to collect all the way back from 1997, and that I might qualify for SSI, not disability. They also mentioned something else about being uninsured all this time, but that is not true...I've been covered by medicaid for the last 10 years. Could someone out there please try to make me understand what the hell they are saying and/or tell what i need to do now? at my hearing the judge told me to get another lawyer A.S.A.P. and have them contact him so I could get this underway. Any takers on this?

Do not use slang on this forum.

Consult another SSI attorney to take your case on a contingency bases .

It sounds like these lawyers were also retained on a contingency bases, and I can't answer you question ,except they may have been thinking you would be entitled to increased amount in benefits if you received SSDI initially .

When retained as such ,the lawyers are entitled to a percentage of the back amount.
