| 1987 Drivers License Suspension COLORADO
In late 1986 I was issued a ticket for running a red light causing a minor accident. I was driving my fathers car and he doesn't have any insurance documents from 20 years ago. All my records were destroyed in a fire in 1988. I set it up for court to give myself more time to raise the money. When the court date came, I was homeless and broke. Instead of doing the right thing and going to court and explaining my situation, I was preoccupied with finding something to eat, somewhere to sleep, and a reason to go on living. Needless to say, a bench warrent was issued and my license was immediately suspended. In 1993, the criminal side was settled in court. I have been trying to get my license back and can't afford the high risk insurance. The DMV told me that if I could prove that there aren't any outstanding claims against me for the accident, I could get a waiver and apply for my license with a clean slate. I don't know how to prove this. I don't know of any claims againts me. Wouldn't I have been notified if there were? Wouldn't there be a statute of limitations on any claims from the other party after 20 years? I've lived at the same residence for 13 years. Thank you in advance for any advice. |
