I recieved 2 speeding tickets within the past year in 2 different counties in CA. The first ticket was going 65 in a 50 zone in Orange county and the second ticket was going 80 in a 65 mile zone in Riverside county. I went to traffic school on the ticket in Orange county but because of the CA law on traffic school cannot go to traffic school again for the other ticket because of the 18 month rule. If this ticket goes on my driving record I will recieve a point which my insurance Co. will increase my premium by a 20% surcharge, which sucks. I am due in Traffic court next week, I will be taking a day off from work and driving 2-3 hrs to attend court. I heard that there is such a class called 2nd offender traffic school ( 12 hr. class) that I can attend. I have never been in court for a traffic ticket before, do I plead guilty and ask the Judge if I could attend this 2nd offender traffic school? Looking for any advice on this

Thanks, Jeff

Basically, yes... You must keep in mind that with a 2nd offender traffic school, the conviction will still appear on your driving record with the DMV, but it will not add any violation points (in essence, a speeding violation with zero point).

Would that spare you from an insurance premium increase? Not neccesarily. Insurance companies have their own point rating system that does not meet nor jive with the DMV point rating system. Call your agent and inquire as to how the will handle the matter if and when they do run an abstract for your policy renewal.
