4mph over speed limit in Michigan in a semi...

What is the name of your state? Indiana

Ok , here is a question for someone. Is anyone familiar with Jackson Michigan and the local police around there etc. ? Reason being my husband drives a semi and was pulled over for doing 59 in a 55. He had the cruise set for 57. It seems as if the speedometer might be off. The company is having it checked out but regardless here is the question.

Does anyone know if they will work out a deal so that no points are added to his CDL ? He is not in jeopardy with his license as he does not have a list of tickets etc. Just that with 4mph's over of course it seems a little overboard. I know when the speed limit is 55 that is what they mean. BUT we all have pushed it a little bit every now and again.

The ticket for going over 4 mph in a semi is a whopping $190 by the way. Plus he had to post a $50 bond so that he could be released etc. Now isn't that a little ridiculous ???

Anyone know how to keep points off in Michigan ?? Any help or advice would be appreciated !

Thanks ,

Stacey

Since when does one get locked up for speeding at 4 miles over the limit?

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be.

Getting locked up, having his rig impounded for a speeding ticket of 4 miles over the limit, just does not happen. Most truck drivers are from out of state, and even get speeding tickets. People do not post bond to a officer on a freeway. There is more to the story.

Yes they can AND do require certain persons to post a bond before they can be released. He was only stopped and cited for 59 in a 55. As for the surety bond of $50 I recently found out that if you are stopped in Michigan and have ANY points on your license they can AND do request you post bond. If you cannot your vehicle will be impounded etc. This came from a DMV in Michigan employee AND the State Police post in Michigan.

Basically , the reason he had to pay this bond was for a speeding ticket 2 1/2 years ago in our personal vehicle - not a commercial vehicle. He has 2 points and well Michigan made him pay for it.

So it was not like he was trafficking drugs , harboring illegals in his trailer etc. Just that they used the points on his Indiana CDL against him and charged him a bond payment.

And I still do not see how "There is more to the story" would have answered any of my questions or concerns...
