Does that mean you or your vehicle were not actually involved, or that you're simply denying it?
If you really were not involved, then contact the police, and invite them to come look at your car. The lack of damage will convince them you weren't involved. Quick and simple, five minutes and it's over.

What can I anticipate will happen and what avenue should I take? Since the police are already involved I am worried about where this can go. If anyone can advise me it will be greatly appreciated.

If you
were involved, the police will eventually find out the truth. You can
try sticking your head in the sand and ignoring them, but that almost never works.
If you live within that departments jurisdiction, all they have to do is drive by your house periodically and check out your car. If it has damage that coincides with the Hit & Run damage, they'll probably take some pictures, or worse, have the car towed. If you live outside the jurisdiction, they can have the cops in your area do the same thing. Unless you're prepared to park your car in a locked windowless garage forever, they're going to see it. It just depends on how diligently they want to pursue this.
You'll eventually be issued a summons and will have to appear in Court. At some point, you'll be in the uneviable position of having to convince a Judge that you're innocent, despite your refusal to cooperate with a police investigation.
