Question

I got a speeding ticket yesterday, I was pulled over in a private parking lot and given my ticket. Are cops allowed to pull people over in a private parking lot or on a private road? I was told they weren't and had to pull me over in the proxomity of my violation. I was going up the hill and the cop was on the bottom. The cop didn't move untill I was around the corner and out of sight. a little past the corner is the turn in for my college. There was no cop behind me untill I was already half way down the drive. Thanks for any replies and/or clarifications. All I wanted to know is if cops are allowed to pull anyone over on a private drive.

Police are allowed to cite drivers any place open to the general public whether it is a public or private road or parking lot. Traffic laws do not end at the where the public road ends.

Thumbs up

thanks

Thanks for the clarification. for some reason, some people at school and at work we're thinking that police couldn't pull you over on a private road. I just had to know someone elses viewpoint. I was wondering if you or anyone else knew why the people around here would think that. Are they confusing this situation with something else?
