can the judge reverse the verdit?

I was in Court today for an appeal. When the Judge call me up to the stand, they didn't call out the officer's name because I heard they say they don't know what the name is. Then the Judge told me that they will dispute the offense. Suddently a cop came up to the Judge and said he is the officer and the Judge without telling me anything and keep the hearing going. Can he do that?
