care less driving~please help!

MN----
a couple days ago me and my friend (lets call him dan and we are both 16) were both driving our cars out on country roads. I saw a friend and i pulled over to the shoulder to ask dan if we wanted to fallow him but he said he had to go home, so I went ahead of him and he fallowed(we were about 20 feet from a stop sign). After the intersection, a cop pulls both of us over. He told me and him that we were going to drag raced before that stop sign. We told him that we were talking (me and dans conversation last for about 4 secounds) but he didnt belive us and said the someone called in some people racing. He gave both of us citations with court dates. What should we do and what is going to happen?

drag racing deal

Ohio. Hey Guy. That advice from Homeguru kinda blows. Yeah, I guess he's some kind of lawyer, so naturally he's gonna say to get one. I don't think that's why you signed up.
First off. I don't know if this applies to 16 yr old drivers, but we went through the same thing recently. My son was 18.
Too late we found out most of the correct procedures.
As drag racing is a serious charge, you can request a trial. Bear in mind that when you go to trial, you are guilty no matter what evidence you present. That is the American traffic system in action. Anyway. After you lose the trial, you can make a motion to vacate, or retrial. Do that. After you lose that, you can request that the case go to an appellate court. If you have many eye witness notorized testimonys, and resonable written evidence, you may get it thrown out.
More than likely you'll lose either way. But instead of just giving them your money like a sheep, you'll have cost them plenty. By the way, even if you live with your parents and drive a brand new Cadillac, if you made less than 6,000 dollars last year, you're classified as an indigent person and they have to give you a lawyer.
Like I said. I don't know if any of this applies to 16 yr olds, and I'm not sure of the steps, as we're still learning too, but to get a lawyer (preferably the judges brother in law) is exactly what they want you to do. If everybody would fight back, the cops might not be so hasty in writing out their B.S. tickets.
Good luck.
