Careless Driving - NJ

Help! I was in a near accident by a man making an illegal left turn (from the opposite direction) in front of me. I was going straight and had right of way. He refused to listen when I yelled that it was illegal and he could not make the turn and pointed to the no turn sign. I called the police and filed a complaint(failure to obey traffic sign). He in turn filed a careless driving complaint, obviously to intimidate me into dropping this complaint. There is no way that I did anything illegal or careless. I don't want to reward his lying and making false statements under oath by dropping the complaint, I believe it is unethical. Please advise!
