changing lanes

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? texas
does anyone know what the traffic laws in texas say about
how far you have to travel in one lane before changing
lanes? I ask cops and they dont know. Seems someone
told me somewhere that it was 50 ft in a lane before
changing into the next lane.

All I know is that one is supposed to signal at least 100 ft. before turning. As for changing lanes it would depend on the traffic conditions because I don't think there is any set distance for when somebody can change lanes.

In Chapter 6.2 in the TX DPS handbook it states:
"BASIC SAFETY RULES FOR PASSING LEFT OR RIGHT

1. Make certain that the way is clear.
2. Give the proper signal before changing lanes.
3. Tap your horn when necessary to avoid surprising the driver ahead.
4. Avoid cutting in too quickly if you must return to your original lane."

My final answer is at least 100ft, but again, I don't think there is a set distance other than what's safe under the driving conditions.
