Question

Choosing a Lawyer in Fairfax County VA

What is the name of your state? VA

Hello all. I've seen a number of people have had problems with the speeding laws in va. Much thanks to the guy who posted his RL experience. My question has to do with choosing a lawyer, that is i have a situation wher ei go ta reckless driving in va and i met with 2 prospective lawyers. The first one painted a more pestimisstic picture about the outcome but he wants $1100 for his services. I got the feeling from him it seems to be an 50/50 chance of getting no suspension given my record (currently at a -7) . He seemed really thorough in presenting my options and how he would got about defending me to the case. I got the feeling he seemed like he could argue a lot with the prosecutor and judge. He also seemed he had a lot of experience dealing with this type of stuff, as he seem to allude that he could resort into a few tricks (i.e. trying to scare the prosecution into a better deal).

The second lawyer i met, was entirely differnet. For one he didn't ask too much about the circumstances of the incident. When i asked about how we could defend me, his answer wasn't as detailed as the first guy. He seemed more laid back about the situation alluding to that this type of incident happens alot. To him it didn't seem as serious as the first guy pointed out. The second guy was more optomistic about the outcome. Alluding to a similar case he had last week, similar circumstances and the person got off with a speeding instead of a reckless. The second guy wanted $650 for his services.

Now my quesiton is given the situation, who would you choose and why? And why the big difference in attitude and price between to the two? When shopping for lawyers does the phrase you get what you pay for hold true? or is there a certain degree of commodity when choosing a lawyer?

Lawyer #1 may be new to the area without a lot of experience but has a reputation to build.

Lawyer #2 may be "one of the good 'ole boys", has an office across the street of the court house, plays golf with the DA and Judge.

Which do you think has the best shot

See if you can get 3 references from each and talk to people they have represented. If not that, find out when they will be in court and go watch.
