Considering if I should fight a ticket

What is the name of your state? IL

I got a speeding ticket this week. The county deputy said I was going 75 in a 55 zone. I know this is incorrect. I was not going anywhere near 75mph. In fact I had just turned and was still accelerating. I imagine I was going about 50mph at the time. So the deputy clocked me at about 25mph faster than I was acutally going.

I can't figure out what the problem was. I don't think the equipment was that off base. It must have been user error. There was a car approaching me from behind at a hight rate of speed that probably was the offender. He was coming up on my rear very quickly. And is probably laughing his head off now.

Another curious thing was that the deputy wrote on the ticket that the conditions were clear and dry. I will dispute that because it was starting to rain and the thunderstorm was moving in. It gave me a bit of satisfaction that he had to stand in the rain while he was issuing me the ticket. I went home and printed the doppler radar with a time stamp that clearly indicated the conditions were not what the deputy wrote. There are even stains from the rain drops on the ticket. I am shocked he wrote clear and dry on the ticket. I don't know if this is a point of contention or not.

There was also a bit of traffic at the time. But he insisted that the radar was locked on me. Although it couldn't have been locked for more than a second or two at the most because he came over the hill in the opposite direction and was behind a car that he was trailing. Didn't have me in a line of sight very long.

Not sure what my next step should be. Don't really want to pay this ticket for a crime I did not commit.

Go in and see or call the clerk of court and ask her advice if she will talk. You may be able to take traffic school or get a deferment that will keep the ticket off your record. If you show on your court date they will usually reduce the fine/points.

huh

if he was using laser could have added sweep eror to the reading. i remember reading about the LTI2020 clocking the corner of the court room at 8 mph.

the LTI2020 take a reading of 60 pulses at 1/3 of a second. now out of those 60 pulses only 1/2 or 1/3 i dont remember have to give a consistant reading. im more sure its a 1/3. making a whole single calculation dependant on a 1/9 of a second. now measur the side of your car and calculate MPH using the lenth@1/9 sec plus 50 MPH. that should get you close to a reading at 75mph. give your ticket to an attorney $85
