What is the name of your state? New York

I was cited back in march for speeding in Suffolk county and my court date was set in september? I was talking to some people i know and they said that the case might get dropped because of the time between the event and the court date. Is that possible?

That is called the right to a speedy trial and generally does not apply to traffic tickets. Even if it did in your case, you must ask for it when you challenged the citation, it does not happen automatically. It's too late now.
