What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
Yesterday, when I stopped on the red light, I crossed into bicycle lane, then I drove straight when the light turned green. One officer stopped me and gave me a ticket with violating CVC 21650 (Infraction). (The officer told me even though there is no right lane on the road, I may block other right-turn vehicles)

I checked online, CVC 21650 is: Upon all highways, a vehicle shall be driven upon the right
half of the roadway,.....

I did drive upon the right half of the roadway. I'm confused. Should I plead not guilty? Maybe I violate other code? Thanks very much for your advice.

It doesn't matter if you violated another code.... you were charged with 21650. If you didn't violate that section of the vehicle code, then you absolutely should plead not guilty.

Jim is correct on this.

Now, something I don't know but should be explained to OP just in case: does the state have a chance before the court date to amend the charges against him?

What subsection were you actually charged with? For example...

21650. Upon all highways, a vehicle shall be driven upon the right
half of the roadway, except as follows:
(a) When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the
same direction under the rules governing that movement.

Why did you decide to veer into the bicycle lane? The only reason you should have veered that far right would be to make a right turn.

Hi Zigner:

Actually I don't know which subsection I violated. The ticket doesn't specify any. And I checked, it seems that none of it applies it.

Here is the definition:
21650. Upon all highways, a vehicle shall be driven upon the right
half of the roadway, except as follows:
(a) When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the
same direction under the rules governing that movement.
(b) When placing a vehicle in a lawful position for, and when the
vehicle is lawfully making, a left turn.
(c) When the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic under
construction or repair.
(d) Upon a roadway restricted to one-way traffic.
(e) When the roadway is not of sufficient width.
(f) When the vehicle is necessarily traveling so slowly as to
impede the normal movement of traffic, that portion of the highway
adjacent to the right edge of the roadway may be utilized temporarily
when in a condition permitting safe operation.
(g) This section does not prohibit the operation of bicycles on
any shoulder of a highway, where the operation is not otherwise
prohibited by this code or local ordinance.

21650.1. A bicycle operated on a roadway, or the shoulder of a
highway, shall be operated in the same direction as vehicles are
required to be driven upon the roadway.

Hi CdwJava:

I didn't feel very well at that time, I just wear a new pair of glasses and still try to fit the new one. Actually, I wasn't very sure I crossed the bicycle lane or not. But I did remember I definitely in the right part of my lane. I guess the policy want to turn right, and I blocked his way which make him very angry.
