Definition of "shoulder" of road in NJ?

What is the name of your state? New Jersey

Anyone happen to know what the "shoulder" of a road is defined as?

Is the white solid line required? If not, then how is a shoulder defined?

Thanks!

"Shoulder" means that portion of the highway, exclusive of and bordering the roadway, designed for emergency use but not ordinarily to be used for vehicular travel.

A 'shoulder' is usually defined as the area between the outside lane marker (stripe) and the right of way. If there isn't a line, then it is generally the edge of pavement to the right of way.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

Jetx..agreed.....

but maybe the poster had no clue it was the shoulder, since there was no lines painted on the road, which happens a lot in construction areas, and when there is lack of maintenence by the highway department. Sometimes there is no difference in road surface btween the road and the shoulder.

You and i both know that driving in the rain/fog/snow on a dark road that is badly painted, you could easily be driving in the shoulder area. Heck we ALL sometimes drive down the center line on a divided highway, if the sides of the road are not painted. Sometimes its the only safe place to drive.
