Did not sign traffic ticket in NYI recieved 2 tickets in NY while drove a car i had just bought back to VA. One was for no registation and one for no insurance(no insurance card on me). I had insurance and a trip permit from va dmv. Va dmv says that this is ok and the NY police officer says no. I am sending copy of my insurance declaration, so this should clear me of this charge. I'm not sure of the registration issue though. I thought about just sending explanation and bill of sale but then i noticed the police officer did not have me sign the tickets. Does this invalidated the tickets or what? Which avenue should I take? |

should not matterHello, I don't know NY law however I have worked in States that have the citations requesting that the violator signs the ticket. It usually does not matter if you sign the citation or not. As long as the ticket was handed to you and you are you. I remember when we would have persons refuse to sign the citation, we would just put refused on the bottom of the ticket and issue it anyway. It just was not required. The only time that I could see this as a problem is if in NY the ticket was concidered a crime and not a infraction. In other words if they consider what you were doing by law in that State a jailable offence. Some States such as Nevada consider all tickets a crime/jailable offence. I doubt this is the case in NY. Good luck. |
