ADHD

What is the name of your state? Oregon
I have recently been pulled over again for a traffic violation. I have a learning disability that effect my ability to concentrate. When my mind wanders I get pulled over and get tickets. My disorder causes me to be impulsive and unable to focus. Medical research documents that it effects driving ability. I asked the court about this problem and was told that the judge does not care about this problem and I need to just pay the ticket. What can I do?

Please provide some more information. Have you been diagnosed by a doctor and what is the condition. How many tickets have you received and what are the violations? Are you on any medication?

Your condition didn't present itself before or after you got your driver's license?

Disability more info.

I was offficially diagnosed by a doctor with this disability my senior year of high school, which was 1996. I have an official dianosis and currently get college help because of it. It was present before I recieved a drivers license although misdiagnosed untill the last test. I currently take medication for this problem, however, side effects require me to cycle of of it from time to time. The medication is helpful but definately not a cure all.

If you have a medical condition that affects your driving, you should not be on the road. My father is not allowed to drive just because he is diabetic and could have a seizure while behind the wheel. My suggestion is you quit driving.

disability

please help! I am 26 years old, I am not physically handicaped. I have full motor function. I simply react sometimes without thinking, which has never come close to causing an accident. It is usually when I am tired and I really struggle then to keep focused. Please help, there has to be something that I can do! I am too young to not drive. I just got married and do have alot going for me, I just am not sure what to do about this problem. I want to know what my options are. If people can win suits over something like burning themselves with MacDonalds coffee because there was not a warning label then there has to be hope for me. Right? Is there not some way to drop the violation on the basis that that I under go some kind of treatment or something. I do not know about the laws that is why I am here.

The problem is that you are fully aware of your condition and how it effects your driving when you are tired & unmedicated, but you chose to drive when tired & unmedicated anyway. As far as a judge is concerned, you need to adjust your lifestyle to eliminate any driving when you're likely to be impaired by your condition. It's like an epileptic who chooses to drive while off meds. If s/he has an accident or gets a ticket, epilepsy is no excuse.

I really appreciate all the feedback really I do. I have already limited my driving and tryed to do all I can to fix the problem myself. I am a full time student with a new wife and just not able to not drive. That is like asking all of you to just not go to the bathroom again. Although for some time you may try to just bare it, eventually you end up in a mess!! Is there really nothing I can do?

Did I miss where you stated the violation you were cited for?

The bottom line is that you are saying that you have a disability that causes you "not to be focused". In case someone has not told you, DRIVING is most likely the most dangerous thing you do everyday. By suffering from a condition that causes your mind to wander and choosing to get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you are placing yourself and others at risk.

You are CHOOSING to participate in an activity that could KILL OTHER PEOPLE while your "mind wanders".

Just because your disability hasn't resulted in a major accident, does not mean that it won't. You are consciously putting innocent drivers lives' on the line so your life won't be inconvenienced.

Really, think about it. Whatever your ticket was for, should be a wake-up call.

If you are choosing to drive with a known disability that impairs your ability to operate a vehicle and you do cause an accident, you will lose everything you own.
