Disobey Signs

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL

I was driving at around 12am, returning home on a Sunday. I was on a main street and at this particular intersection, a sign designates instructions for the upcoming intersection; Left lane must turn left into where a new road is created, while the right road may turn left or continue. I was in the left lane, and a car turned in front of me to the left, but I disobeyed the sign and continued forward. The Officer pulled me over just passed the intersection. The markings on the complaint indicate: MCC ch 1 sec 16 010. I am providing a google map link for anyone to view below. The officer told me a couple things on the night of, "there are so many accidents there", "it was well lit", "you were going fine", "you needed to turn". What defenses do I have? I understand i'm supposed to turn now, but I drive very cautiously, I didn't even have to brake when the car turned in front of me, and I didn't respond aggressively either. Any chance I can have this reduced to a warning?

Anyone care to offer a suggestion? I'd really appreciate some advice.

Nothing in your post suggests the ticket is invalid or unwarranted. See a local attorney if you wish to challenge the citation. They know the local courts and what it takes to fight a ticket.

It was night time, and the car in my right lane was distracting me, it was my first time at the intersection, and I slowed down to let that car get in front of me, they continued and turned left in front of me and I must've just missed the traffic control sign. There's only 40ft between the traffic control sign and the actual intersection, what if there's a car on the right lane, how do you go straight, is that a plausible argument?

It is incumbant on you to not allow yourself to get distracted, certainly not from other vehicles.

It was midnight on a Sunday, the other vehicle was jumpin into my lane, he may have been under the influence, If I were not distracted, he may very well have turned left in front of me and I would never have been ready, It was the very fact that I was being alert to his presence, that I was ready for him to do something such as turn in front of me. At this point, my speed was reduced that I did not have to slow down.

Is this a valid argument?

This is all hearsay, it is not admissable as evidence.

Not even close. As stated, distracted driving is not a valid reason to violate the law.

If the video evidence collected by the officer corroborates my story, would it be grounds for dismissal?

I'm curious... Why did you think any of these statements are important to post... or that they would work in your favor in any way?

Also, consider this

NOT!!!!!

Not only did you disobey the sign -as is suggested by the citation you received- but you also cut across a lane of traffic without checking to see if there were any traffic to your right as well as without signaling. At least you did not mention doing either of those things.
