is there a difference? there is a man who lives in Silsbee, Texas who "revoked his last name. He has no driver's liscense, social security card or anything like that. But he legally operates a vehicle because he has an inalienable right to "travel" and he says the law distinguishes between driving and traveling. He states there is a difference because driving is the operation of a "road machine" for the purposes of income. Taveling is going from one place to another. Although he is outside the system because he revoked his last name and cant obtain DL's and such, but he says these basic principles apply to anyone. And considering he has been like this for over ten years, the law must be on his side. What do you think??

Traveling may be a right but operating a motor vehicle on a public road is not. Driving a motor vehicle is a privilege, not a right. I can not explain the reason he may get away with driving but if he was ever to be in a accident or cause any property damage, I would suspect the full fury of the law would come down on him hard.
