I was pulled over in westland, Michigan at approximatly 1:30 am and the officer told me my license was suspended. I thought that it was already reinstated. My paper showing the dates of suspension showed that it was suspended through midnight of the next day; In other words I had 22 1/2 hours left of the suspension. I had gotten the dates mixed up. I have heard that traffic violations do not require "intent" to commit the violation, but that a DWLS charge does require intent to commit the crime because it is more serious. Is this true and would I be able to get it dismissed because I did not intend to drive on a suspended license and my reasoning for driving at the time was because I was a day early (22 1/2 hours--exactly).

Also, I was placed in the back of the police car (but not read my rights) while they searched my car. Officers asked me a few questions about if i knew that my license was suspended, and a few other questions. They charged me with DWLS. They asked me if I had money on me and then told me i could post a street bond and they would let me go; which i did.
Was i under arrest because I was in the back of the police car and not able to leave on my own free will? Should they have read me my rights? And,if so, what effect does this have on my case?
