What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA

Hello,
I just received a ticket for "expired inspection" (city of Boston - Code 323) when my car was parked on a city street. My inspection expired 8/31/08 and I a got ticket on 9/5/08 (5 days later). I honestly completely forgot about my inspection. I had my car inspected this past Sat. 9/16 at 9 AM (this was the first available time I had to get it done) so it's all set now.

Since this is considered a moving violation in MA, "surchargeable event", and will increase by insurance rate, I was thinking about contesting the ticket to see if I could get it reduced to a non-moving violation however I read in another post that while the fine could be reduced, the violation would remain as a non-moving violation which doesn't help. In MA, I think inspection expires on the last day of the month now regardless of the date of issue so I was hoping the magistrate would be lenient since I was only 5 days past.

Has anyone tried to contest an expired inspection ticket and if so, what was your outcome? Do you think it's worth giving it a shot given my factors?

Thanks - Katie
